Venetian Clock

Venetian Clock

While in Vegas I stared at this beautiful clock on the Venetian. I took a bunch of pictures, to my wife’s chagrin, and tried to figure out what was going on.

The two hands indicate the hours and minutes in regular 12 hour format – local time Las Vegas (not Venice). In addition the clock features the 12 signs of the Zodiac but I don’t see any indication as to the current sign. It also has the first 24 roman numerals around the perimeter, but the usual 24 isn’t at the top, and once again there is no obvious method for indicating the time of day using the 24 indicator dial.

If anybody knows the specifics of this clock please let me know. I guess I’m more of a watch guy and this clock doesn’t make a whole lot of sense to me.

It seems to be a replica of an original in Venice. Details are here:
